Privacy policy
Effective October 2026
Great Lakes Wills & Estate is operated by Truckey Nofsinger, LLP, a Michigan law firm (“we”). This policy explains what we collect through this website, why, and how we protect it. Information you give us to prepare your estate plan is also confidential under the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct.
What we collect
- Account information: your name and email address. You sign in with a one-time code we email you; there is no password to store.
- Questionnaire answers: information about you, your family, the people you name, the general value and types of your property, and your health care and funeral wishes.
- Documents you upload: scans or photos of your signed documents, if you order courtesy packets.
- Payment records: the amount and date of your payment. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.
- Technical records: sign-in times and IP addresses, kept to protect your account.
We do not ask for or store Social Security numbers on this website. If you ask us to deposit your will with a probate court, you write the identifying number the court requires on a paper cover sheet that you mail to us.
How we use it
Only to provide the legal services you request: to check whether our service fits your situation, to prepare and review your documents, to communicate with you, to complete any after-signing services you order, and to meet our professional and legal obligations. We do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising trackers on this website.
Who sees it
- The reviewing attorney and firm staff, who are bound by confidentiality.
- People you choose to receive courtesy packets, limited to what you authorize.
- Service providers that host this website (Vercel), store its data and files and handle sign-in (Supabase), send its email (Resend), and process payments (Stripe), each only to the extent needed to provide that service. Card numbers go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Others only when the law requires it, such as a court order.
How we protect it
The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to client files requires an attorney account with two-step sign-in. Uploaded files are kept in private storage and are reachable only through short-lived links issued to you or the firm. The database is backed up regularly. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
Our emails never include the contents of your plan. They tell you something has changed and ask you to sign in. Please don’t send private information by email; use the secure messages in your account.
How long we keep it
Your answers and documents become part of your client file, which we keep under the firm’s file-retention policy and our professional obligations. You may ask us to close your website account at any time; we will still keep the client file as required.
Your choices
You may review and update your answers until you submit them for review, and afterward by messaging your attorney. You may ask for a copy of your documents at any time.
Children
This service is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children, except the names and birth dates of a client’s children needed for the client’s plan.
